All web sites contain far more information than you need in one go! Use them with caution – search for what you need, rather than browsing widely. This way you will avoid too many unnecessary scares!
Please be aware that most of these sites are English sites, so things may not necessarily happen in quite the same way in France. They are all, however, official sites and DO give useful information.

General Cancer Information
Macmillan Cancer Support is a UK charity working to improve the quality of life for people living with cancer. Their mission is to give cancer patients and their families the up-to-date information, practical advice and support they need to reduce the fear and uncertainty of cancer. Publications are available. Current news and developments in the treatment of cancer are shared. Provides good information without being hospital specific.
Macmillan supports the aims of Cancer Support France.
Cancer info is part of the work being carried out by INCa (Institut National du Cancer). This link provides access to a wealth of information for both patients and their families. Although it is mainly in French, translations are gradually being made so that information will eventually be available in English. CSF has a partnership with INCa.
This is the largest French cancer support association with over 100 committees across France. They provide information booklets, support groups and have been known to provide small grants to help patients. If you have a problem, and can speak French, then this is always a good source of information. La Ligue also operate a 24 hour telephone support service which can provide advice on many topics as well as someone to talk to. During the day they do try to have someone who speaks English available. The phone no. (local call rate) is 0 810 111 101. CSF has a partnership with La Ligue.
Specifically concerned with people living in France. This site offers an exchange of experiences, questions and answers. Information about cancer and its treatment is presented.
Cancer research is the UK’s leading cancer research organisation. This is an all-embracing site giving access to up-to-date research results as well as information about different cancers. Access to cancer nurses is also possible. It also publishes a regular free newsletter which you can subscribe to on-line, and free leaflets on different cancers which you may download or print off.
Site provided by Cancer Research UK, gives free information about cancer and cancer care. This is a very good site, user-friendly with lots of information, including up-to-date information on trials, etc
This site is mainly run through the Montpellier hospitals. It has a lot of info in French as well as its own forum. It also has links to many other sites including those which give help and support.
www.canceradvice.co.uk – An excellent UK website with very informative and illustrated (diagrammatic or CAT scan photos) details on cancer types through their Cancer Information Centres. There is also an Expert Advice and Opinions Service for cancer patients although there are costs involved for these services. Excellent links to other cancer charities including those for ethnic and multicultural backgrounds
www.cancernetwork.com an American website which offers cancer related publications and PodCasts. To access documents through Cancer Network, site registration is required and is simple
www.nhs.uk – Offers a very useful “Health A-Z” incorporating a health dictionary, symptoms checker, individual conditions and medicines information
www.royalmarsden.nhs.uk/cancer-information - A very informative site with lots of downloadable booklets in PDF format
www.wcrf.org - The World Cancer Research Fund available in English and French. An organisation devoted to funding research into the prevention of cancer. Good nutritional information
www.bonecancerresearch.org.uk – A good site for all things to do with bone cancer with a twice annually downloadable newsletter in PDF format
www.anthonynolan.org – Everyone remembers the tragedy of Anthony Nolan after whose death, The Anthony Nolan Trust for bone marrow donation was set up. These days, now known as stem cell transplants, this charity runs the donor register to help those with Leukemia and other blood diseases. They produce their Connect magazine which can be downloaded in PDF format and can be subscribed to

www.breakthrough.org.uk – Dedicated to finding the causes of cancer, promoting early detection and ensuring the best possible care for those diagnosed with the disease. Video and diagrams on signs and symptoms are informative
www.thebreastcaresite.com Helping breast cancer survivors reclaim a positive and healthy lifestyle. This is an American site, examples are therefore taken from the US. The information is helpful and can be printed off easily.
www.komen.org This American web site comes recommended by our patron. It deals exclusively with the subject providing a wealth of information.
www.jostrust.org.uk – Dedicated UK website for cervical cancer offering downloadable materials and on-line support
www.bsccp.org.uk – The British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology; provides a great deal of information about the process of a colposcopy with a very useful video
www.bowelcancer.tv - A site set up by TV presenter, Lynn Foulds-Wood which includes useful procedure videos
www.bowelcanceruk.org.uk - Dedicated to raising awareness of bowel cancer, improving the quality of life of those affected and ultimately reducing the number of deaths from this form of cancer; good PDF downloadable fact sheets
www.ostomyinternational.org – This International/American site has lots of information about the procedures and different types of pouches, etc
www.ovacome.org.uk - Ovarian cancer support network. This is a good specialist website focusing on ovarian cancer, one of the most common female cancers. They also produce a quarterly magazine

www.rdoc.org.uk – The Mouth Cancer Foundation is an excellent site for a single cancer type with lots of downloadable documents although some are on the link to www.cancernetwork.com, an American website which also offers other cancer related publications. www.leukaemialymphomaresearch.org.uk – purporting to be the only UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of patients with all types of blood cancer, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. They are focused on finding causes, improving diagnosis and treatments, and running ground-breaking clinical trials for all blood cancer patients. Free leaflets by post or as downloads, information on research and clinical trials

www.asbestos.com - This is an excellent American website which contains detailed information about asbestos related cancers and accompanying resources. There is a particularly good section on grief and coping with grief, identifying the many losses we experience throughout life. Asbestos.com is committed to providing the latest, up-to-date information to its visitors in the hopes of spreading awareness about the dangers of asbestos cancer.
www.mesotheliomaguide.com - A new site reaching out to provide up-to-date support to mesothelioma patients and family members. This is an American site some aspects of it may not be relevant to people in France. Mesothelioma is a rare cancer, only affecting 2,000 – 3,000 patients a year.

www.europa-uomo.org – Europa Uomo: The European Prostate Coalition working with objectives to promote awareness of prostate cancer throughout Europe
www.prostatecancerfoundation.org/-This is a cancer concerning those in later life. This is a good site with lots of infomation.
www.bobchampion.org.uk – This charity came about after the champion jockey, Bob Champion developed and overcame two cancers. This is an inspirational but uncomplicated site for men with cancer - testicular, bladder and prostate cancers
